Through the generosity of the Marie & John Zimmermann Fund, Peters Valley is pleased to offer full workshop scholarships to those with a committed interest in the art of jewelry, fine metals or blacksmithing. Those chosen will receive full tuition, materials, lodging and meals for a metals workshop of their choice during the summer workshop season. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to be considered.
Scholarship recipients will be chosen by a panel of Peters Valley staff. The panel will review the applications and select those that reflect the strongest need and desire to further develop their skills and understanding of metals. The panel will take into consideration the applicant's experience and the contents of the letter of intent. We feel it is important that the applicant show a strong desire to enhance their current work or expand into new creative territory. It is our hope that by taking a workshop at Peters Valley the recipients will be inspired to grow creatively in their personal work while striving to make an impact in the world of metal art.
Marie Zimmermann (1879 – 1972) was an American designer and maker of jewelry and metalwork. She is noted for fine craftsmanship and innovative design in a variety of different mediums and styles. Calling herself “a craftsman” rather than an artist, she employed many different crafts in her work such as metalsmithing, carving, painting, and sculpting.
There is a $5 application fee for this scholarship.
